Kaohsiung Smart Streetlight Replacement Program
As Kaohsiung's Smart City program continues to promote, from the fall of 2020, street lamps in the streets and alleys will be replaced one after another, transforming into energy-saving smart street lamps with beautiful and simple shapes and bright, comfortable lights to light up the corners of the city, while making the cityscape more beautiful. Traditional streetlights are less waterproof, and because of their old wiring, they are susceptible to weather conditions such as heavy rain and typhoons, which often increase the number of damages after a typhoon or a rainstorm, making maintenance crews tired of their work.
By replacing the old lamps with smart LED lamps, combined with the original programmed positioning system, the failure rate has been significantly reduced, and the system will automatically notify the maintenance personnel to deal with any abnormalities and damages. This will not only enhance public safety at night, but also reduce labor costs while saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. The Works Bureau estimates that the full replacement of smart streetlights will reduce electricity costs by NT$108 million and carbon emissions by 37,000 tons, thus achieving the goal of a smart city that utilizes technology to strike a balance between development and environmental protection, and to promote the sustainable development of the city.

Swiss Nachtbus
In Switzerland, after the peak hours of the night, when there is no transportation operating, they have minibuses to get people home safely.
The organization responsible for the minibus system is the Verein Herrliberg Plus (VH+) association, which was founded in 1997 to improve the quality of life for residents, and the night minibus is one of its projects.
In Herrliberg, the night minibus departs every half hour from 8:40 p.m. to 12:40 a.m., and the departure time is calculated to be within 10 minutes after the train arrives at the station. However, if the train is delayed, the minibus will flexibly adjust its departure time, and it will definitely wait until the train arrives at the station and picks up passengers before leaving. Before boarding the bus, the driver will ask everyone where they live, and quickly map out the driving route, trying to deliver each passenger to their doorstep.
This program embodies the idea of providing an affordable and sustainable transportation system for all.
