There are several tasks that volunteers can sign up to do:
Food Distribution: Volunteers assist people in choosing the food items that we have available, according to their household size and their personal preferences. Volunteers work in pairs, and follow posted guidelines for food distribution.
Loading/Unloading: Volunteers help to unload food from trucks that deliver food from the Food Bank of CNY, as well as local grocery stores. Food is then stocked on shelves. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Substitute Food Distribution: Volunteers can sign up to sub in for someone who is sick, or otherwise not able to make it in for their volunteer shift.
Food Delivery: There may be times when people can't get to the Food Cupboard to pick up their food, and volunteers are needed to deliver food to the client's home.
Volunteers must be 18 years old to help with food distribution, or 14 years old accompanied by an adult to help with other tasks when clients are not present.
To apply to volunteer, fill out the application below and bring it to the food cupboard, email it to sullivanfoodcupboardinc@gmail.com or mail it to: Sullivan Food Cupboard PO Box 201 Chittenango, NY 13037
Volunteers will attend an orientation and training session at the Sullivan Food Cupboard site. Those volunteers distributing food from the site must complete annual online Food Safety and Civil Rights training.
