North Carolina is an incredibly sharky area. We are currently collaborating with Tanya Griffin Houppermans www.blueelementsimaging.com/, an internationally acclaimed award-winning underwater image maker, shark naturalist, scientific diver, and explorer who advocates for the ocean and its inhabitants through conservation and education. Together we are investigating how this area may be a critical gestation grounds for female sharks. Using state of the art equipment such HD ultrasounds www.eimedical.com/ and a novel satellite tags www.lotek.com/ we hope to better understand how and when such species as scalloped hammerheads, sand tiger, and white sharks may be using this area.
