As part of our literary exploration, we were assigned to read the poetry collection 'Abol Tabol' by Satyajit Ray. I selected the poem 'The Inventor', which tells the story of an individual who creates innovative solutions to peculiar problems. In response to this poem, I crafted short stories about inventors who devise tools to overcome everyday challenges, reflecting on the creative problem-solving process.
The response:
A bald man was tired of people asking him for a comb, so he came up with a clever solution. The next time someone asked, he pulled out a comb... with sharp nail teeth! Problem solved. No more annoying requests!
A girl’s sweat was ruining her makeup. So, she invented “The Sweat Collector”, a gadget that collects sweat, saving her makeup from vanishing! Now, she is staying fresh faced, even on the sweatiest days!
A scrawny kid hit the gym, but his progress was hard to spot. So, he made a t-shirt with measuring tapes allover it to prove his gains. Talking about flexing... literally!
A scientist spent decades on research, but one of his research puzzled him. In frustration, he started chewing pencils! Solution? Minty pencils! Now, he’s got fresh breath, but still no answers!
A Delhi guy was fed up with the city’s toxic air, so he came up with a genius plan. He traveled all the way to Arunachal Pradesh, caught some fresh air in a jar, and brought it back to Delhi. Now, he’s the most popular guy in the neighborhood, distributing “fresh air” to his friends and family. Who needs air purifiers when you’ve got a jar of Arunachal awesomeness?
A guy was obsessed with time, always stressing about being late. His doctor prescribed “Time Pills” to calm him down and specially told to take them one hour before he leaves. But, hilariously, the pills just made him obsess over taking the pills on time! Now, he got stuck in a loop: “I’ve got to take the pill an hour before I leave... but when’s the right time to take the pill?!”
A guy was a genius at coming up with clever ideas, but suddenly his brain stopped cooperating. So, he created “The Idea Pills” to boost his creativity! Now, he is having those pills to get his geniusness back on track!
A man had a habit of tapping his leg while sitting. He made a device that made his leg tap even faster! Now, he is like a super-speedy leg-tapper!
The next phase of the assignment involved bringing our characters to life through a performance. Our class was tasked with embodying the characters inspired by our chosen poems. To start, I designed a poster advertising a feast where my character showcased and sold his eccentric products. Building on this concept, I further developed the idea and created a tangible representation of the product described in my short story, effectively merging my character's narrative with a physical manifestation.
I took on the role of a seller who navigated the stage with a cart, utilizing engaging rhymes to promote my product and inviting everyone to witness and acquire my invention.
