Hygiene Regulations

Hair:

Marine Corps Grooming Standards

No eccentricities in the manner of wearing head, facial, or body hair will be permitted. If dyes, tints, or bleaches are used on the hair, the artificial color must harmonize with the person’s complexion and must be of a natural shade. Conspicuous color changes are prohibited.

Males: Evenly graduated from 0 inches at the base of the hairline to a maximum of 3 inches on the crown of the head. Mustache must not extend past corners of the lip and must be trimmed short as to not touch lip. No sideburns past the ear orifice (hole), or beards are permitted.

Females: Either cut short or French braided so that the hair does not extend below the bottom edge of the shirt collar. Hairpins, barrettes, bobby pins, scrunchies, combs or any other items may only be worn if they match the person's hair color or cannot be seen.

Fingernails

Males: Fingernails will be neatly trimmed, kept clean, and should not extend past the end of the finger.

Females: Fingernails will be neatly trimmed, clean and should not extend past the end of the finger more than ¼ inch. No Fingernail polish other than clear is acceptable.

Earrings

Males: No earrings will be worn while in uniform.

Females: One pair of gold studs are the only items permitted for wear on the earlobes while in Summer Service ”C”, no earrings will be worn in the camouflage uniform.

Rank Insignia

Black Plastic (utility/khaki shirt collar or all-weather coat collar): On each side of collar, placed vertically with single point up and center of insignia on line bisecting angle of the point of collar, the lower outside edge being equally spaced 1/2 inch from either side of collar. Lamps of learning point inboard.

Gold on Scarlet Embroidered (dress blue coat sleeve): On each sleeve, 4 inches below shoulder seam, and centered. Lamps of learning point to the front.

Officer's Insignia: Officers insignia will be worn 1 inch up and centered with the bottom edge of the collar of the khaki shirt. Ranks will be worn with the long axis of the ranks vertical. (See illustration below)

The insignia will be worn on the right side of the garrison cover opposite the branch of service collar insignia.

MCJROTC Patch

Centered 1/2 inch down from shoulder seam on left sleeve of all outer uniform clothing except for the service sweater, all-weather coat, and field jacket.

Shooting Badge

Males: The shooting badge will be worn with the bottom edge of the holding bar 1/8 of an inch above and parallel to the top edge of the left breast pocket.

Females: The shooting badge will be worn centered on the left side of the khaki shirt with the bottom edge of the holding bar on line with the top of the first visible button.

Ribbons

Males: Ribbon bars will be worn centered with the bottom edge of the ribbon bar 1/8 of an inch above and parallel to the top edge of the left breast pocket. If worn with the shooting badge, the ribbon bar will be centered with the bottom edge of the bar 1/8 of an inch above and parallel to the top edge of the shooting badge.

Females: Ribbon bars will be worn centered on the left side of the khaki shirt with the bottom edge of the ribbon bar on line with the top of the first visible button. If worn with the shooting badge, the ribbon bar will be worn centered on the left side of the khaki shirt 1/8 of an inch above and parallel to the top edge of the shooting badge holding bar.

Females: On the dress blue jacket a horizontal line will be drawn from the highest point of the jacket pocket. This is considered the top of the pocket. Ribbon bars will then be worn as described above. (See illustration below)

Ribbons will be worn with no spacing between rows, and in order of seniority from left to right, top to bottom when looking at the ribbons on the shirt/coat

Medals

Males: On the blue dress coat, medals will be worn centered above the left breast pocket with the upper edge of the holding bar on a line midway between the first and second buttons of the dress coat.

Females: On the blue dress coat, medals will be placed centered over the left breast pocket with the top of the holding bar about 1 inch above a horizontal line tangent to the highest part of the pocket. (See illustration below)

Name Tag

Males: Nametags will be worn centered with the bottom edge of the name tag 1/8 of an inch above and parallel to the top edge of the right breast pocket.

Females: Nametags will be worn centered on the right side of the khaki shirt with the bottom edge of the nametag on line with the top of the first visible button.

Web Belt

Edge of belt tip is to extend from a minimum of 2 inches to a maximum of 4 inches past the left edge of the belt buckle when worn.

Trouser Length

Meet at the juncture of the heel and sole, with 1/4 inch tolerance above or below it.

Military Alignment

The required vertical line on the uniform consisting of the right edges of the shirt, belt buckle and trouser-fly.
