Participating in the Author Event is fun and easy! Just follow these simple steps:
Step #1
Make a commitment to participate in the Author Event. Complete the Event registration form and return it to a classroom teacher by Friday, January 31.
Step #2
Determine your writing category and develop your idea. You may want to come up with several ideas before you settle on your final one. Write your project and spend enough time on it to make it an example of your best work.
Step #3
Ask an adult to review your project and to help you double check your grammar, spelling and punctuation. This could be a parent, grandparent, teacher or other grown-up. If corrections need to be made, ask your adult helper to explain to you the reasons for the corrections. Do your very best to listen to and to understand the reasons.
(Note to Adult Helpers: Try to make the review process a learning experience for the child. Also, although it is tempting to do more, please remember this is the child's writing project and it needs to be his or her original work.)
Step #4
Make sure your project is neat and legible and it has your name, your teacher's name and grade on it. Submit it to a classroom teacher by Monday, February 24. Tell the teacher the writing is for the Author Event. Your teacher will deliver it to the Imagination Fair mailbox in the office.
Step #5
If you plan to read your project at the Author Event, practice reading it in front of friends and family. You'll want to make sure that you are speaking loud enough, slow enough and clear enough for people to understand what you are saying.
Step #6
Invite family and friends to the Author Event to listen to you read your project. Also, smile, cheer on your friends and have fun!
