Proposition 31 was just passed in California and went into affect on January 1st, 2023. This proposition is a statewide ban on certain flavored tobacco products. Proposition 31 means that in-person stores and vending machines are no longer allowed to sell flavored tobacco products or tobacco product flavor enhancers. Examples of flavors this ban is talking about are fruit, mint, menthol, honey, chocolate, or vanilla. The proposition says a tobacco product is considered a flavor enhancer if the product creates a flavor when added to a tobacco product. The proposition also does not ban certain cigars, or loose-leaf tobacco shisha (hookah) tobacco sold and used at the store.
