Google Slides Animation

Have you ever wanted to create an animation but just didn't know how? With these easy to follow tutorials you will use a variety of free software and apps to create cool animations that you would be proud to share.

Lesson 3 Create a Google Slides Animation

During this lesson you will use Google Slides to create a really cool animation. When you publish your completed slides to the web it will click through the slides (frames) automatically bringing your animation to life!

Important note before you begin:

If you create this animation using your school Google account you will not be able to show your animation to anyone outside of the school organisation as the link will not work. But if you use your own personal Google account to log into your personal Google drive and create the Slides in there, you will be able to share it with anyone who you share your link with.

1. Watch this YouTube clip showing you how to create an animation using Google Slides: https://youtu.be/JtbhNiiXoGQ

2. Think about what you want to create your animation about. It could be about anything you like. I created one set in space but you can do it about anything. You can use any images and text you want.

3. It is important that you spend a few minutes planning what you want to create before you start. You could write the plan down, sketch it on paper or simply have it in your head. But you MUST plan it first.

4. Requirements:

  • at least 100 slides (frames)

  • combination of background images, PNG images, text and shapes (edited)

  • text must be easily readable (ensure they last for at least 10 slides)

  • your animation has a purpose (this is where your planning is important)

5. Once you have completed the animation you need to publish it to the web to make it play like a real animation. Instructions are on the end of the Yourtube video above. Or simply follow these:

  • on the Google slides animation you created go to file and then publish to the web.

  • check both boxes and click the Publish Button.

  • click Ok and then copy the weblink that is provided.

  • paste the link into the address bar of your Internet browser and press enter.

  • your animation will play too quickly. To slow it down pause the animation and click on the URL you just copied and pasted. Near the very end you will see the word 'delay' followed by a number. Change that number to 80 and then press enter to play your animation again.

  • copy this link and send to your teacher.

Teacher Note

Attach a blank Google slides to the your Google Classroom Assignment for easy submission and tracking of student progress. Or students can send you the published link. Note - If a student creates the animation using their school Google account only members of your school organisation will be able to view the animation. It wont load if someone outside the organisation clicks on the link. Students who use their own personal Google account will be able to share their animation with anyone if they change the who can view settings of the slides in their Google Drive. You could screen record the finished animations to create an MP4 file.
