The redundancy of the utilisation of MFAs among the fishers in Odisha was assessed through the identification of various socio-technical constraints. Fishers were used to conduct fishing operations using their indigenous local knowledge (ILK), however, it was found that the co-utilisation of MFA with ILK will be beneficial for fish stock preservation and environment-friendly fishing towards meeting the targets of SDG 14. Further, a geospatial model of optimisation of fishing crafts has been carried out through the identification of PFZ hotspots in the northern BoB region in order to provide the best policy recommendations to improve the marine environment and livelihoods of the fishers.
It is recommended to popularize the MFA among the fishers so as to utilise the same in regular basis for sustainable fishing
Marine fishers used to utilise weather information as decision-making tool for planning their fishing expedition
It was observed that fishermen engaged in active fishing while allied activities performed by the fisherwomen in the state
Odisha is vulnerable to extreme weather events such as tropical cyclone
