About Me
Subrata Patra was born in Sohagpur, a small village in India, in 1994. I earned my BSc in Chemistry from Midnapore College, Vidyasagar University, and an MSc in Chemistry from IIT Guwahati under the guidance of Prof. Tharmalingam Punniyamurthy. During this time, I gained valuable research experience through a summer project at IISER Kolkata and achieved competitive milestones such as clearing the CSIR-NET and GATE exams.
My academic pursuits led me to the University of Alberta, Canada, where I worked with Profs. Derrick L. J. Clive and Jeffrey M. Stryker on pyrazole and pyrazolidinone synthesis. I later joined Prof. Dmitry Katayev’s group at the University of Fribourg and subsequently the University of Bern, Switzerland, where I completed my PhD in Organic Chemistry. My doctoral research focused on pioneering catalytic strategies such as photocatalysis, electrochemistry, and mechanochemistry to achieve selective functionalization of hydrocarbons.
Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern, I am exploring advanced catalytic methodologies to address key challenges in sustainable organic synthesis.
Outside the lab, I enjoy hiking, photography, camping, and traveling, which fuel my creativity and passion for discovery.
Thank you for visiting, and I invite you to explore my work and reach out for collaborations or discussions!
