I obtained a BSc (Hons.) degree in Physics in 2002 from the Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, Kolkata, then an autonomous college affiliated to the University of Calcutta, Kolkata in West Bengal, India. Thereafter, I pursued a MSc degree in Physics from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh till 2004.
The idea of joining a M.Tech. Atmospheric Science course at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune; 2004-2006) originated from an urge to work in an emergent and challenging area involving Physics with scope for theoretical as well as experimental research. During that period, we were trained in all the nuances of the subject by renowned scientists at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune.
Being selected as an IITM JRF in Pune (2006-2008) I initiated land surface modelling with Noah, but very soon upgraded to a CSIR (NET) JRF and enhanced the domain of research activity to the investigation of land-atmosphere interaction in the variability of the Indian summer monsoon using a regional climate model. Fortunately, within few months of submitting the PhD thesis in October 2012 at the University of Pune, I got selected for Postdoctoral Research Scientist positions at the Centre for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA), George Mason University at Fairfax, Virginia and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) at Washington, USA. I received the doctoral degree in May 2013.
At COLA, I was involved in land surface initialization and predictability studies with the NOAA/NCEP's Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) operational global model during 2013-2016. Returning back in July 2016, I had a brief stint as a Scientist C at IITM, Pune and thereafter, started teaching and research at the University of Allahabad as an Assistant Professor since December 2016. Since June 2020, I am an Assistant Professor at the Banaras Hindu University.
Academics apart, I am keenly interested in fine arts (painting) and playing the Tabla, two streams that I had pursued diligently till senior school. In addition, I am an amateur photographer, singer, enthusiast of classical music, avid reader and writer of short stories. I have had the opportunity to don the role of a Hostel Warden at IITM, Pune (2006-2009), been the Vice-Captain of the A.G. Church School, Durgapur during Classes IX-X (1996-1997) and been a voluntary teacher-cum-NSS worker in a school for blind students (Blind Boys Academy, Narendrapur). I have won several accolades in painting and singing competitions, represented my school in inter-school quiz contests, and also directed and acted in plays and skits.
I love to take responsibilities and challenges.
