Condensed matter physics is one story, various aspects of which continue to surface and intrigue. Among various things, these are few thoughts where we most recently had a lot of fun:
Topological Phases of Matter:
Weird materials. Neither here nor there. Metallic on surface, insulating inside. We tend to make them wierder. Wonder if one can get them in glasses, on fractals, on percolating networks?
Magnets, anyons and what not:
Can statistics be intermediate between those of fermions or bosons? Create a toy model to realise the most crazy idea? Create a fermion with no charge but just spin. Fantastically strange things happen in strongly interacting systems. Partly we worry about these.
Soft, statistical and quantum matter:
Can quantum matter have surface tension? Can one make a mechanical transistor? How about make a topological Kirigami? We partly work at the interface of statistical physics, soft matter and quantum physics.
Out of rest, open systems:
If systems at rest were not sufficient to make our life miserable, we want to couple them to leads. Throw light, disturb them, and see what happens. Dynamical and driven systems are partly things we worry about.
Experiments:
No, no we do none. But we talk to friends doing experiments. Confuse them more.
We welcome confused souls.
