SSLA believes every young person should have a seat at the tables that they are affected by. Our youth should be able to see leaders and educators that reflect their identities and create their own path where they engage in a set of life experiences that dare them to dream big and make a positive impact on our community.
Our community does not look to young people as contributors to solutions to the systemic problems that plague our communities. This year, our students have been challenged by the spike in violence in Stockton and are working on solutions to get to the root of the issue.
In 2018- 2019 school year we had the opportunity to engage and activate Black, Brown, and API youth to positively impact our community and lend their voices and expertise to our systems to ultimately impact us all. This group worked hard on two focus areas: Education and Justice.
