The SSLA Mentor Experience is a 10-month program commitment (May 2019-May 2020), designed to train and equip our mentors with the skills they need to support the youth of color. Our mentors have the opportunity to combine the theory of working with youth with practice; hands-on experience in facilitation, communication, and interpersonal group dynamics-skills; intensive leadership training and development before, during, and after the program; and the opportunity to reflect and act on your responsibility as members of the Stockton community. This model is broken down by 3 different phases: Phase 1 Personal healing, building family, and how to build youth leadership. Phase 2: Using skills learned in Phase 1 to mentor youth during our week-long academy. Phase 3: Monthly post-camp mentoring sessions with youth.
