The first mention of schools in Taughmaconnell is in the second report of the commissioners of Irish Education Enquiry dated 16th September 1826. It lists a hedge school in Dundonnell. Records in the National Archives show that Taughmaconnell N.S. was established in 1852. This was probably the current Community Centre. The old school is dated 1901. Rev Pat Galvin, PP, Ballinasloe was the administrator. Margaret McSweeney was the first registered teacher. Her salary was £10 pa. The parishioners donated £50 towards the cost of building the school. The earliest roll books in Taughmaconnell date from 1865. https://taughmaconnell.ie/schools/
School begins at 9.20am and finishes at 3.00pm. We have a break at 11.00am and lunch at 12.45pm. All visitors should make an appointment please. Details of dates of school closures can be found on our calendar.
We provide a balanced curriculum, covering a broad range of subjects. It's not all hard work though. The social aspect of school is very important to us and there's always an opportunity to sit back and relax in the company of our friends. Have a look at the "Ethos and Initiatives" page for more details.
We are proud to be a central part of our local community. Many of us in the school are also members of other important local organisation such as St Rónán's Church, Skyvalley F.C. & Padraig Pearses GAA Club.
