Dr. Denine Echevarria has faced and overcome many struggles that are common to single mothers pursuing higher education. Several years ago, she found herself homeless and a single mother to 2 children after a high-conflict divorce. With family, church and government assistance, she was able to complete her doctorate program and pursue a financially secure future for her children.
She is passionate about being a champion for equity. Her doctoral research focused on English Language Learners and Gifted programming opportunities. She also has a strong desire to advocate for women of color and single mothers. She has been privileged to be surrounded by many incredible mentors who pushed her and also fortunate to have overcome many adverse experiences as a woman of color that shaped who she is.
Her journey has shaped her identity as a strong, determined single mother, who values education as a pathway to financial security.
