Interning with Trinity College’s Strength and Conditioning Department proved to be one of the most valuable experiences in my coaching journey. I was a part time intern in the fall of 2017, helping out at Trinity about 12-15 hours per week while taking classes at Central Connecticut State. Three main things that I got out of my experience included hands-on coaching, insight on how to successfully run a department and the creative thinking that goes along with it, and a long-term relationship with Bill and his staff.
The hands-on coaching experience I was granted, from the very first day to the last, was so helpful in helping me find my coaching voice and style. The sheer amount of athletes that came in and out of the weight room every morning and evening gave me the chance to practice my coaching cues, build relationships with athletes, and really nail down my coaching personality. I was able to connect with the athletes and help amplify the culture that the strength staff had created. Bill and Greg made me feel like I was a part of the staff, giving me positive and negative feedback whenever necessary and providing me with new professional development articles, books, and videos to learn from. My knowledge of the field skyrocketed in such a short time, in addition to the intangible skills I had gained.
Non-coaching highlights of the internship included jumping in on a few staff workouts with Bill and Greg to try out the MASS program, getting to meet and chat with some of the head sport coaches, and problem-solving how to optimize space in the weight room with the equipment that we had. Every department faces their own challenges, and it was really cool to be a part of finding the solutions with the Trinity staff.
I still stay in touch with Bill and his staff and continue to learn from them. They are passionate about their athletes, their interns, and the S&C field in general, and I would recommend this internship to anyone looking to better themselves as coaches and as people.
Intern Fall Semester 2017
I am extremely grateful for my internship experience in the weight room at Trinity College. I started as a student worker my junior year working night shifts manning the weight room for open hours, inputting data into excel, contacting companies for broken equipment replacements and cleaning/ resetting the room for the next day. I thought this was the best job until Bill took me under his wing and granted me an intern position assisting with teams my senior year. I was fortunate enough to program for men’s and women’s tennis and squash and assist with all other teams. This experience opened my eyes to the college setting for strength and conditioning and I learned very quickly that there was a lot of information I didn’t know, but by surrounding myself with a great mentor who supported me personally and professionally I fell in love with the field and hope to be successful as a college strength and conditioning coach for the rest of my life.
Student Worker: 2017-2018 School Year
Intern: 2018-2019 School Year
A good internship should provide: coaching experience, knowledge of programming, and a possible chance for a reference. Trinity College goes beyond the expectations of a good internship. The Trinity College S&C staff were able to create an experience that have made impacts on me as not only a coach, but more importantly as an individual. It's a comprehensive curriculum combined with a fast paced environment that expects the type of accountability required for the field. That being said, they take the time to mentor each intern individually, exposing weaknesses and educating them on the best strategies to fine tune themselves as coaches. I would not be the same coach or person without their guidance, support, and continual investment in me as a coach.
Intern Fall Semester 2019
After graduating with my masters degree in exercise physiology, I had no experience as an S&C coach nor did I have any understanding of programming other than what was taught in the class room. The strength coaches at Trinity (Bill DeLongis, Greg Cox) made a huge impact on my life, career, and outlook on S&C. I was lucky to work as a full time intern learning as much as I could, I messed up from time to time but they were easy to give back feedback that made me a better coach today. I look up to those two coaches to this day, because without them I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I have now or the knowledge. Learning to program and be a coach helped from the reading and the extensive information that was given to me during this internship and I still use it to this day. This internship will test you but inevitably give you the tools to further advance your career in the S&C world. Work hard, pay attention, and do the little things.
Intern Fall 2018
Part Time Assistant Spring 2019- Fall 2019
No matter how I phrase it, I cannot put into words how amazing an experience it was to do an internship at trinity. It gave me a direct and fast hands-on experience to being a strength and conditioning coach. What started as a degree requirement and interest in a new way of training led to one of my best college experiences. The staff and student-athletes treat you as a professional at all times and teach you, especially when needed. I would happily do this internship all over again as I learned a new style and approach to training as well as a love for training student-athletes. It’s something I plan on carrying into my career as a Marine Corps officer as well as a strength and conditioning coach afterward. You will have a lot expected from you, but with that comes a great reward of work as well as knowledge.
Intern Spring 2020
This internship with Trinity College Strength and Conditioning has given me a huge amount of exposure to different training methodologies. Through presentations from expert coaches and discussions with fellow interns, I’ve deepened my understanding of topics ranging from FRC mobility protocols to Triphasic peaking methods.
The weekly programming assignments were a great opportunity to adapt and apply this learning. Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde are outstanding mentors, and their feedback on these assignments has been invaluable in helping me build my programming skill set.
I will be finishing this internship experience with a large programming portfolio, as well as a clear personal philosophy on coaching and training. With this in mind, I feel well-prepared to take the next step in my coaching career.
Intern Summer 2020
The virtual Strength and Conditioning Internship at Trinity College was incredible. Not only did we learn the X's and O's of Strength and Conditioning, but we also learned how to stay relevant as future coaches in the industry. The Coaches covered subjects that most internships leave out, such as creating a coaching philosophy, building a resume, and honing leadership skills. This internship also helped us to build an outstanding network by bringing in guest presenters who were all experts in their respective fields. I'm walking away with world-class knowledge and skills that I know I will use for the rest of my life. Thank you to the Trinity College Strength and Conditioning staff for the incredible opportunity.
Intern Summer 2020
Assistant at Trinity August 2020-September 2021
I cannot begin to describe to you how great of an experience I had doing this virtual internship over the 9 weeks. This internship has helped me grow in many categories ranging from planning and programming to athlete and culture development. I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills learned over the course of this internship to the athletes and individuals I work with each day. I hope to keep you as a colleague and friend in the field going forward and look forward to future conversations. Thank you again for this opportunity to be apart of this great experience.
Intern Summer 2020
I was afforded the opportunity to participate in a 9-week Virtual Internship with the Trinity College Strength and Conditioning staff. While this has been the most non-traditional strength and conditioning coaching internship that I have ever participated in, it was undoubtedly one of the most impactful experiences of my career. Coach DeLongis, and Coach Hyde put together a great curriculum that has equipped me with knowledge, confidence, and a whole new network of coaches from around the country. I can confidently say that I am a more refined practitioner after going through this experience, and I highly recommend this program for anyone looking to get into the field and learn from some of the best in the business.
Intern Summer 2020
I have never completed an internship before, but I feel as though this internship helped me extensively in my development as a coach. Each week progressed really well into the next, and everything from the topics (covered a broad range of methods, nutrition, speed, etc) to program development to guest speakers was of an extremely high standard. Overall I felt as though there were many more areas, in addition to the internship topics, that I was interested in because of the Division 3 comparison. I was gaining knowledge on how to schedule, run a program and structure sessions based on the equipment I had access to. I would definitely recommend Trinity for anyone interested in an internship.
Intern Summer 2020
I just want to say how thankful I am. The self growth opportunity you guys provided during this internship is amazing. Once again thank you for allowing me in your amazing Trinity College Internship.
Intern Summer 2020
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a diverse and experienced group at Trinity College, with colleagues coming from different backgrounds of expertise and having an open mind to help me learn about the different aspects of Strength and Conditioning. My experience working with Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde has been invaluable and will guide me through my career for the rest of my life. Thank you for the great opportunity!
Intern Summer 2020
Interning for Coach DeLongis and his staff at Trinity was one of the most valuable experiences I could have received in the strength and conditioning profession. The knowledge and lessons I have learned over such a short period of time with the Trinity staff and student athletes will stay with me for my entire career. Not only did Coach DeLongis and his staff inspire me to better myself as a coach at Trinity College, but also a weight lifter.
Coach DeLongis and his staff provided an incredible hands on experience with the student athletes at Trinity. Along with this, the education I received from the academic curriculum truly set me up for success. Coach DeLongis and his staff continuously put time, effort, and attention into helping me become a better coach, and I could not be more grateful for that.
Thank you to Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde for an incredible semester/year at Trinity College. My career as a strength and conditioning coach would not be the same without this experience.
Intern Fall 2020
I cannot imagine a better place to begin your S&C coaching career than Trinity College. Working alongside Coach DeLongis and his staff, you gain hands-on experience as an intern that is simply not replicated at other programs. Trinity provides interns with an online education curriculum consisting of expert guest speakers, programming tutorials, and personal development that pairs seamlessly with the coaching responsibilities you earn in person. Not only was this a phenomenal experience for my professional development, but the daily staff lifts opened my eyes to an entire new world of training for myself. Bill and Matt do an in-depth job critiquing your coaching ability in a constructive and informative manner, allowing you to improve on your weaknesses and amplify your strengths. After completion of this internship, I am very confident that I have the foundation to be a successful strength and conditioning coach moving forward in my career.
Intern Fall 2020
Choosing Trinity College as my first collegiate internship experience was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The coaches and staff are not only dedicated to improving the skills of their athletes but are also committed to help educate and lead future strength and conditioning coaches like myself to success in their future careers. Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde challenged me to continue developing my coaching “voice”, take more initiative, and be accountable for my mistakes and weaknesses, all of which have helped me grow immensely. For that, I am extremely thankful.
I was also lucky to have been taken through a sound educational curriculum that touched on concepts related to programming, speed and agility, conditioning, and professional development. I left with the tools to become a better coach while also being taught important skills like how to network in the field and how to write a proper resume and cover letter. However, the most unique aspect of this experience was the amount of hands-on coaching that I received. I had a blast getting the opportunity to come in and work with all of the talented athletes and more importantly developing great connections along the way.
I am so grateful to Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde for investing their time and effort in helping me develop as a young, aspiring strength and conditioning coach. The passion, knowledge, and lifelong mentorship that this internship program provides is very special and is an experience I will cherish throughout my career going forward
Intern Spring 2021
This internship was one of the best experiences of my life and I’m thankful for my time spent at Trinity. The staff is incredible, I can’t talk highly enough of both Coach DeLongis and Coach Hyde. They are two great individuals who are very respectful, they show they care about you and want you to succeed in this field. They will guide you throughout the semester. Not once did I feel lost, they were always willing to help. However, they will challenge you in many ways so be prepared. Each day aim to better yourself, always keep a positive attitude and embrace the challenges that come your way. The student-athletes were always very respectful as well. The educational component of this internship helped improve my knowledge in the strength and conditioning field. There were many concepts I learned during this internship that I had never learned in college. I can definitely say that this internship made me a better overall person and coach and the knowledge I learned here will stay with me for the rest of my career.

Assistant at Trinity Fall 2021- Current
Interning under Coach DeLongis was one of the best professional decisions I've made thus far into my career. I know that the knowledge gained from this internship has shifted my own training/coaching philosophy for the better. The intensive curriculum you complete will go over many aspects of strength and speed development, while also touching on subjects such as developing your own philosophy, excel, nutrition, and much more. As a whole, this is an incredibly organized, thoroughly designed program that will surely help aspiring coaches in multiple ways over the course of their time at Trinity College. As always, experiences like this are what you make of them. I recommend anyone interested in working with this staff fully commit to a full-time schedule. You will not regret it.

Intern Fall 2021
The internship program here at Trinity College is well-made and gives you everything you need to learn and succeed. I am very glad and thankful that I chose Trinity for my internship experience. The coaches Bill DeLongis, Tyler Stasiowski, and Aaron Ginty are amazing and very knowledgeable. They not only taught me so much during my time here, but they also challenged me and pushed me outside my comfort zone. This challenge was very important in reaching my coaching goals. They pushed me to jump in and help athletes and even run warmups and oversee small groups. The hands-on experience you get here is unlike any other school, you are coaching and demonstrating exercises from day one. The educational portion of the internship is very helpful in learning new training methods and the reasoning of why we do them. I am confident in saying that this helped me understand more in this field and helped me in creating programs. The athletes here are incredible, they are all very respectful toward you and make the experience a lot of fun. Working at Trinity was an incredible experience, and I am very thankful for the coaches and what they taught me.
Intern Fall 2022
The Trinity College Strength and Conditioning internship allowed me to get more floor time leading athletes than the 3 Division 1 internships I’ve done in the past. It was challenging at times, but all the situations I was put in were things I would have to do when leading my teams in the future. This internship allowed me to develop my coaching voice further, learn more about programming, and learn to create programs on the fly. Overall, this was a great internship experience as this is not one of those cleaning internships, and you will be on the floor coaching as long as you are willing to put the work in.
Intern Spring 2023
Interning with the Trinity College Strength and Conditioning team provided me with valuable experience as well as insight to the grind required to succeed at the collegiate level. It was good to work with various sports and to see the different programs and attitudes of different teams and athletes. There was also an educational aspect which included readings, videos, and making programs. It was a great first step for me as an aspiring sports performance coach. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the strength and conditioning field. To any future interns, ask a lot of questions and be a sponge during your time with Trinity’s strength staff.
Intern Spring 20223

Intern Spring 2024
During my 150-hour strength and conditioning internship at Trinity in the spring of 2024, I gained invaluable hands-on experience working with a variety of sports teams. Here, I learned the day-to-day operations of a college weight room and developed a deeper understanding of training principles and how to manage athlete development effectively. I was incredibly lucky to work alongside a knowledgeable and supportive staff.
This internship has been a pivotal step in shaping my future career in strength and conditioning.
