Lovely ride out with the boys, beautiful sunny day, observing the speed limits...........mainly.........and of course observing social distancing due to this Corona Virus outbreak. Each with our own flask of coffee and sandwiches in a layby, what a sight........
Thought it would be a nice chance to take the GSXF750 out now that it's all done and finished. I've done all the work on this, including the respray, looks really nice now, and it loves it in the higher rev range..........read into that what you will...........
Having a little play on the way home, touched the rear brake pedal, heard and felt a "THUNK", no rear brake!!!!!
Pulled over and found the rear caliper missing, brake hose torn off and pissing out fluid.
So, front brake only the rest of the way home, luckily only 3 miles, nice and gentle ride of course, you can recover a rear slide but very rarely a front.
About half a mile down the road, smoke pouring off the bike.
Pulled over again, found the rear caliper, remnants of the support bracket and torque arm, jammed between the rear tyre and the inner guard, slowly ripping the side off the tyre........hence the smoke.
Retrieved all that, shoved it in the backpack.......got home safely.
Oh well, new tyre, brake hose, fluid, pads and support bracket to be sourced.
More work to do............
New parts arrived earlier in the week. Honestly thought they would take longer due the Corona Virus thing going on, but no.
Stripped and re-painted them, all fitted now and back to normal.......thank god! Can ride again :)
Front end felt a little vague on the GSXF750, so thought I'd check and change the fork oil. Glad I did, no bloody oil in them😕This is all that came out of one leg, about 20ml, should be 510ml. So thinking the previous owner had maybe drained the oil so it doesn't show a leaking seal on the mot test.....decided to replace the seals and fluid.
While I'm there, thought may as well put the new tyres on.
So tyre off, clean the rim up a bit.........na.......got carried away again.......ended up stripping the rim completely and re-painting it. A nice gloss black. And not the rattle can stuff either, I only use 2K paint, proper finish and goes on better.
Cooking nicely in the sunshine now😁
Looks like Mother Nature has had her artistic brush out on this 1944 BSA WM20.
Would be nice to keep as much of the natural patina as possible, just get it running and riding.....
Yikes! This sold in under 24 hours..................
