You will probably be used to your school sports teams going off to play against other schools, or going to a [insert sport here] festival to compete against a plethora of local schools. Maybe, if individuals or teams have enjoyed some success, they'll have been invited along to an awards evening to celebrate their achievement. Maybe students at your secondary school go and lead events in local primary schools. Sound familiar? STREAM is simply a partnership of schools that aims to replicate this, but for the wider curriculum.
STREAM is a 'framework' for students & teachers from EYFS through to KS5. Indirectly, it also aims to build teaching & learning communities & opportunities for educators.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths)
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths)
Both of the above acronyms, STEM in particular, are well embedded terms already used in education and in some workplaces We wanted this platform to have several layers of compatibility with the humanities too, so we added R for research. This also opens up other avenues in the other subject areas. Additionally, much emphasis has been put on STEM subjects recently. Whilst this is fantastic, we also wanted to be able to provide a way of encouraging & nurturing writers, historians, artists and orators (for example), as well as mathematicians, scientists and engineers.
The first event is likely to be a debate or a research skills task which will be held in Spring Term 1 in the 2022/23 academic year. At present, 19 schools are working on student led projects/events and we are also in talks with a very exciting organisation about a code breaking event!
Not at all; think of it this way: your school sports teams would usually be picked based on their performance and attitude in PE/Games lessons. These lessons were going to be taught anyway, and meet National Curriculum or Exam Board criteria.
STREAM will work in a similar way and may also give those educators with a passion for their subject an opportunity to lead events, or to plan the 'classroom' elements for other schools to deliver (if they choose to). The more schools get involved, the smarter we can work.
It's free. STREAM is all about celebrating creativity and building teaching & learning communities, not about making money.

In our mind, the logo brings art, nature, maths, engineering, history etc all together onto one image which makes it the perfect representation of what we are trying to promote.
Students: Be curious. Do some research. Ask questions.
Teachers: Ask your class. What ideas do they have?
