Founded by Charles Taylor in 1886, Taylors of Harrogate began trading as “C. E. Taylor and Sons” (Taylors of Harrogate, 2022). This business served the county of Yorkshire with coffee beans and dried teas of remarkable quality. Taylor understood his craft from bean, to leaf and even knowing how the qualities of the water used affected the brew (Taylors of Harrogate, 2022).
After gaining popularity, he expanded his business and opened several cafes (known as “kiosks”) across the county (Bettys and Taylors Group, 2022). These were very popular with both general public visiting for a drink and owners of local hotels who would come to taste teas and coffees which would suit the water in their area (Taylors of Harrogate, 2022).
In 1962, C. E. Taylor and sons merged with Betty’s, a reputable business running a high-end café in Harrogate (Bettys and Taylors group, 2022). Then in 1977, Yorkshire Tea was launched which they have quoted is "perhaps our most famous offering" (Taylors of Harrogate, 2022).
