Looking Back
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church was organized as a congregation on August 22, 1846, by 26 individuals from Jackson Township, Carroll County, Indiana. They held worship services in various locations in the area until the summer of 1849, when they built their first building on the northwest corner of Water and Cumberland streets in Camden.
Founding minister Reverend Samuel McReynolds served St. Peter’s from 1846-1855. He died in 1894 at the age of 74 and is buried in Kokomo.

Bell Tower
Purchased in 1906, St. Peter's brass bell faithfully called worshippers to the "old church" for nearly 60 years. In 1965, it was removed to make way for the construction of our present church and was stored in Etta Jones’ barn in Camden for the next 21 years.
Through the generous legacy of Mr. and Mrs. Musselman the bell was given new life. It was carefully retrieved, sandblasted, painted, and polished. Mr. Bill Schock constructed a sturdy steel bell tower, and in July 1986 the bell was once again raised into place. The tower was completed with leftover bricks from the new church, creating the beautiful bell tower that stands today.
More than a century after it was first purchased, our historic church bell continues to ring each Sunday, calling God's people to gather for worship. Its familiar sound is a lasting reminder of the faith and devotion of those who came before us and continues to welcome those to worship today.
