Waxing and Care of Skis

Clean your skis after skiing on man-made or dirty snow!

  • We highly recommend using Rex Base Cleaner or a similar product to clean the gliding sections of your bases of your skis often (or even every time!) if you ski on man-made snow or dirty old snow.

  • The Rex base cleaner also will put in a hard wax that you'll brush in with a nylon brush. Your skis are then set for the wax of the day.

  • Debris that is in manmade or dirty snow slows down your skis. This means more resistance while training and racing--isn't skiing hard enough?!

  • This simple 1 minute video gives you directions for cleaning the bases of your skis.

  • In summary:

            • DO THIS IN WELL VENTILATED AREA (venting fan in room or in open air).

            • First brush base of ski tip to tail with copper brush--DO NOT GO BACK AND FORTH! This step removes some old wax and some of the dirt and debris in the ski.

            • Use a paper towel or fiberlene product as seen in the video (paper towel is going to be cheaper and much less waste) to apply and clean the base.

            • Repeat the process until the paper towel is coming out clean!

            • Allow the skis to sit for at least 3 minutes.

            • Then brush back and forth with a nylon brush.

            • Your skis are now clean, have a nice hard wax in the base, and are set for the wax of the day!
