Media Monitoring in Kenya & Uganda
Field Journalists will be required to have produced & published seven (7) high-end, media stories, on formats of their choice, by the end of the project period. Outputs for various mediums are detailed below
Print Stories: each at 800 – 1000 words, per piece.
Social Media Posts: consisting of at least one, self-taken/designed image/video accompanied by a story of a maximum of 200 Words. Each post must be accompanied by promotion and be relevant to other media produced as an output.
Photo Story / Graphic Art: at least 6 frames / panels with captions
Podcast: Presented as five (5) episode to meet the requirement of five (5) stories with a minimum length of 10 minutes per episode and a maximum of 20 minutes per episode.
Video (Mobile): Presented as five (5) episode to meet the requirement of five (5) stories with a minimum length of 3 minutes per episode and a maximum of 5 minutes per episode.
Field Journalists will be required to undertake the following training prior to producing their final stories for publication. This training is provided by the GSMC.
Day 1:
Intro to Journalism: Ethics, confidentiality, storytelling, planning, pitching & presentations, saving & transfer of work, copyright etc.
Day 2:
Print Media Training: Storytelling, interview techniques, plagiarism, research etc.
Day 3:
Social Media Training: Storytelling for Social Media channels, metrics, analysis & responding, confidentiality & consent etc.
Day 4:
Photography & Graphic Arts Training: Equipment care & operation, satire, intention, visual-storytelling, stereotypes & poetic-license, confidentiality & consent etc.
Day 5:
Audio & Video (mobile) Training: Equipment care & operation, confidentiality & consent, storytelling, interview techniques, etc.
