We want four or more Olympia Councilpersons to go on record and vote to remove the Log Cabin Extension Road through the LBA Woods from all plans. Most importantly is removal from the Comprehensive Plan.
The Comprehensive Plan is amended only once a year. This year's deadline for submitting changes in November 20th.
The Comp plan process is a structured and transparent way to illuminate the issues and the preferences of the public (through the required public hearings) concerning the road.
If the Council proposes the plan, they are exempt from the onerous "fee" of $2,500 that we would have to come up with to proceed if we introduce the amendment.
Alternatively, the Council could consider and vote on a motion for a policy resolution or proclamation declaring the Council's direction to the City Manager to proceed to remove the road from all current and future changes to city plans including the Comprehensive plan. This would take longer to remove the road from the plan as the next time the Comprehensive plan comes up for its regular review is 2022. It does, however, mean that the City staff can begin the orderly process of finding and removing the road from their plans and documents as part of their usual workload.
These actions can demonstrate how our democratic institutions can make changes that reflect the will of the people by following the "regular order" and processes. It can help strengthen our belief that government institutions can hear the voices of the majority of the people.
