This is information on #StopThe5on5; which exposes corruption within DPSCS, laying out millions of tax payer dollars annually and the Constitutional Rights of hundreds of Maryland's returning citizens being violated.
Modest Number of Inmates Affected by 5on5;
(Annually): 200 inmates
How much it costs per year, from taxpayers to house an inmate: $33,000
Average length of Excessive Confinement: 18 months
18 months (1.5 years) times $33k, you get $49,500.
$49,500 times 200 inmates = $9,900,000. (Annually since 2009(11 Years) = $1,089,000,000
$1,089,000,000 that was not legislatively accounted for, nor was it approved or intended to be allocated at all – let alone be wasted by causing prisoners to be HELD AGAINST THEIR WILL, CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS.
This will continue to be a leak in our system, both in Constitutional Rights being protected and misallocated funds within the operational budget in the DPSCS until it is dealt with legislatively.
#StopThe5on5 is looking to get public officials to take action to reinvest into our overall public safety by reallocating the misused monies into the lives of our returning citizens and into their reintegration into our neighborhoods across Maryland.
A descriptive layout of how Mandatory Minimum sentences, and a particular ongoing situation that is not only destroying the veracity of the criminal justice system in Maryland, but how the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services’ mistakes and inability to take accountability is costing millions per year to cover up, while hundreds of Maryland returning citizens, are being excessively confined and held against their Constitutional Rights because of it.
