In February the Special Defence and Security Convention (SDSC-UK) will be coming to the NEC near Birmingham, having left Telford following two years of protest there.
The arms trade needs to be resisted everywhere, so when it tries to set up shop in West Midlands we are coming together to say “No”. At the same time we say “Yes” to community and to peace. Read more about SDSC and why we oppose it.
Our two days of action against this arms fair aim to bring what is in hiding into visibility. Tues 3rd will be focussed on engaging members of the public attending other activities at the NEC.
The main day of action will be Weds 4th Feb, which will include creative and reflective responses to the arms trade:
street theatre from the Red Rebels,
XR drummers,
the XR peace dove,
a die-in,
a silent vigil led by Quakers,
interfaith prayers.
Join when you can over the two days, please try and arrive by midday. If you can come early (from 8pm on Tues 3rd and 9pm on Wed 4th), there will be the opportunity to catch delegates and other NEC users arriving. Most delegates will likely have left by 5pm.
Food and toilets are available in the NEC cafes, which are all open to the public.
The easiest way to arrive at the NEC is via Birmingham International rail station. We hope to have stewards to direct people to the site of our protest, and groups may travel together from Birmingham New St.
