The Rev. Logan C. Lovelace became the Rector of Saint Mary's and Saint Stephen's in June 2022.
Logan earned his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary and his Bachelor of Arts from North Park University in Chicago, IL. Logan has been involved in ministry work and leadership since he was in undergrad. From prison to youth ministry, Logan finds it important to try to walk alongside all God's people. Prior to his call to the priesthood, Logan taught English at an alternative high school.
Logan believes in the power of story, that getting to know people and building relationships is a vital component of being human and of our call as baptized Christians. Having been an educator, formation is near to Logan's heart. He appreciates good Bible study and figuring out applications for God's Word in our lives. Logan believes God is ever present in creation and in all the people we meet. He listens and looks for God in all he encounters.
Logan and his wife, Corey, are excited to call Morganton their home. Corey is a trained classical singer and teaches voice. Both love the outdoors and are devoted hikers and campers. They have two chill cats and one energetic boxer.
When not at church, Logan enjoys exploring new places, eating delicious food, and practicing his photography.
The Rev. Deacon Hope Laingen was ordained in the Diocese of Virginia, August 12, 2023 and soon thereafter moved to the Diocese of Western North Carolina. She was assigned as Deacon at St. Mary's-St. Stephen's in September 2024 (she received her Letter of Assignment the day of Hurricane Helene.)
A native of Boone, Hope completed undergraduate studies in music and English at Wake Forest University, later earning a Masters degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University. She currently teaches English as Second Language and GED/High School Equivalency classes part-time at Catawba Valley Community College.
Hope’s diaconal formation was completed in The Saint Phoebe School for Deacon’s, a joint program between the Dioceses of Virginia and Southwest Virginia, and courses taken at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific’s Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership. That said, she considers herself a lifelong learner and all of life and ministry to be formational. Hope’s previous ministries have included hospice work, feeding ministries at church food pantries and soup kitchens, and building collaborative community partnerships providing mutual aid. At the foundation of her Deacon’s heart are the Baptismal vows to “seek and serve Christ in all persons” and “respect the dignity of every human being.” Above all else, Hope sees the diaconate as a call to listen to and deeply love people, helping us all to see and lean into our connections more than our differences. She is passionate about Good News Gardening, building community, and the intersection of Creation Care and Holy Aging and Dying.
Hope and husband Jim are excited to be in the process of moving to Connelly Springs. They love kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating, but are equally as excited to hit the hiking trails of Western NC! Taking care of Hope’s family farm in Hudson and playing with their 5 dogs also keep them outdoors a lot! They have three adult children, one of whom is married, 2 grand-dogs and 2 grand-cats.
