Who We Are

We are a diverse congregation with distinct aspirations, hopes, and dreams for the future. We embrace our diversity and Episcopal identity. We are ever striving to have a deeper understanding of our faith, right relationship with one another and how to be an example of light in the world. We wish to live faithfully and grow in our understanding of Jesus in this ever-changing world, and we look for help and guidance from our leaders as we strive to do God’s work and realize our vision.

We are a church of volunteers. We are a caring congregation who volunteer in the lay positions of the church to support and respond to our membership and the community.

We value our outreach programs and put a strong emphasis on being helpers in the community. Our ministries include: Towel Ministry, Soup for the Soul; Burke United Christian Ministries; Support of a Girl Scout Troop; Backpack Ministry; Support with School Supplies to the local elementary and middle schools; feeding sports teams from the local high school; fund raisers; and partnerships with other area churches for community outreach. St. Mary's and St. Stephen's shares use of its Parish Hall with various community groups. Members of the Latino Ministry use the Church for regular services.

St. Mary's and St. Stephen's is a beautiful church in a semi-rural setting with a large lawn. It is a short drive from Downtown Morganton.

As part of the larger Episcopal Church, we believe God loves all people- no exceptions.
