The domestic Church does on a small scale, what the Church universal does on a large scale. It makes disciples. The family is the place where Jesus is first proclaimed, where faith and vocations are nurtured, and discipleship is lived out in real and tangible ways.
Compass aims to anticipate the needs of Catholic parents, accompany them through the trials and joys of family life, and point them to faithful answers to life's difficult questions.
The Archdiocese of Detroit Office of Family Ministry is pleased to introduce Compass, a new resource for parents. It is an online catalog for parents and caregivers to find articles, books, videos, and other resources to help navigate difficult conversations, life stages, and challenges they face in raising children.
A KNOWLEDGE BASE OF IDEAS
AND BEST PRACTICES
If we have become spiritually dry, we need not fear. Dry wood is perfect for being set on fire! (UTG 3.2) . . . all it needs is a SPARK!
Spark is a knowledge base of resources, training, and best practices developed to accompany pastors and their leadership teams in fulfilling the propositions outlined in the pastoral letter Unleash the Gospel. This knowledge base includes contributions from dioceses and parishes from across the country and Canada on the best ways to bring people to Christ and the most effective approaches to accompany the faithful on the path to discipleship. Content includes ideas for all three stages of the Encounter/Grow/Witness paradigm as well as ministry suggestions for the Family and Parish Action Steps defined in Unleash the Gospel.
Promoting vocations is an important part of growing the Church, but it takes the work of many people to foster a culture of vocations. The culture of vocations begins in the home and is supported by the community.
In 1964, the visionary Pope Paul VI recognized a decline in priestly vocations and designated the fourth Sunday of Easter as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is also called Good Shepherd Sunday because of the Gospel readings. This is not only a day to pray for vocations, but also a good time to launch new initiatives that inspire young people to consider priesthood or religious life.
