SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

The St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School community enthusiastically endorses the mission of the Board. Our community accepts its responsibility to be part of the saving mission of the Church and, in co-operation with home and Church, to deliver a distinctly Catholic program intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person.

Our school focuses on helping students become responsible people who are capable of choosing freely in conformity with a conscience that has been shaped by Christian virtues. Thus, as a consequence of this philosophy, students, staff, and parents cooperatively developed the following school mission statement:

We are inspired by the spiritual beliefs and Little Way of St. Theresa of Lisieux to strive for personal excellence as life-long learners within our Christ-centered Catholic school community.

This statement is intended to be the ideal towards which all of our efforts will be directed and against which all of our actions will be measured.

STL is a distinguished Catholic school which prides itself on the achievements of its students and staff and its adherence to a special mission. Visions of the Catholic school graduate are contained in many writings by Ontario Catholic educators and leaders, past and present. One of the most compelling in its breadth and depth is to be found in a tract published by the Institute for Catholic Education.

Our tradition tells us that God creatively and lovingly calls each of us into the wonder of life, sustaining us by the power of the Holy Spirit, throughout the human journey, into life eternal.

Catholic education views human life as an integration of body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in this vision, Catholic education fosters the search for knowledge as a lifelong spiritual and academic quest.

Consequently, St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School “can never be simply a place where students accumulate skills and information, a place where they learn to get ahead and sell their gifts on the open market.” (Ontario Bishops, This Moment of Promise.) St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School is a place where the ultimate purpose of education is to educate the soul. (Trafford 1998)
