The novel fin locomotion mobility solution is what separates BIFROST from the rest of its competitors. Our custom designed fin acts as a conveyor belt that pulls itself forward using the regolith as leverage.
BIFROST's fins allow for a rover to move in sand or liquid, making it an attractive prospect for military applications in addition to space exploration.
Once funding is secured, we expect to finish testing the mobility schemes and adding subsystems for sample collection and communication within a year. It will take two years to finish a production grade prototype. After rigorous testing, the rover will be launched to the Moon within five years.
NASA is mainly interested in the South Pole because ice water is located in its shaded regions. They wish to extract it and understand the region better before creating a Lunar Base and moving on to Mars.
In our world, BIFROST stands for Bio-Inspired Fin Rover On Southern Terrain. In Nordic mythology, Bifrost is a burning rainbow bridge that connects the people of Earth to the Gods. We believe that our rover is a connection between human enlightenment on Earth and a world of knowledge in space. We're ready to cross that bridge into a new wave of scientific discovery, are you?
