The Sternberg Science camps program takes students from all over the country into the field and onto the web to teach them important fundamentals of what it's like to have a career in sciences like geology, biology, and paleontology. The students in elementary school, middle school, and high school camps range in age, race, sex, socioeconomic backgrounds, and learning abilities. Teaching the world's youth about the natural sciences is important for progressing public knowledge and engagement of scientific fields. A mission of the Sternberg Camps is to make sure students leave our camp knowing that science is for everyone.
In supporting scholarships to help with camp admittance, you have the chance to be a part of something that contributes to inclusion and opportunities for future scientists and explorers.
Our names our Maggie and Marjie and we are alumni of the Sternberg Science Camps. Our journey began with the Sternberg in 2015 when we attended a field paleontology camp. Since then we have made our way through the program from students, to counselors, teaching assistants, program management assistants, and now instructors. We fell in love with taking students far and wide to teach them about the natural world. Our passion for ensuring that students from all different backgrounds have access to important educational opportunities is why we created this project.
Marjie Cone is a senior geology major at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne. She has completed undergraduate research about invertebrates and enjoys education outreach, hiking, and she will continue her studies in graduate school in fall 2021.
Maggie Wolf is a senior at the University of Evansville majoring in biology and minoring in Spanish. She has a passion for bird behavior, conservation education, and all things outdoors, and she plans to continue her studies in graduate school in fall 2021.
