Group Costume Contest

Costumes of 4-8 persons in a group will be judged as static poses. Groups may include hand props and the seamstress/tailor will be considered a part of the group even if he or she isn’t sitting in the display, and the same goes for the makers of any element of the display so included. Displays don’t have to be of a single time period, but will need a framing story to explain why the persons in such clothing are in the same place. Note that in this case clothing also includes armor. If possible the groups will be photographed, and may be rendered in a faux portrait style using image manipulation software for use in newsletters or an annual summary of baronial arts.

1. All tableaus must represent period clothing styles or those considered period by the SCA.

2. Not all team members have to be on display –artisans can use their crafts toward the performance. So, for example, a tableau might consist of two individuals in clothes with another in armor, but the team would include an armorer, two tailors/seamstresses, a cobbler, and someone who made the hand props. All work needs to be in period style or acceptable within the SCA.

3. Tableaus last a maximum of 15 minutes, including all set-up and tear down of anything needed. Stage hands will be available to help as needed, but you’ll want to have clear and concise instructions of what you need them to do as they’re not familiar with your tableau.

4. To submit a group you’ll need the name of the Tableau, the style and time period, And the name and role of all members of your team. To help in naming your tableau, use titles similar to artworks. (Examples: “The Merchants”, “”Morning Hunt”, “Dress Ball”, etc.) Tableaus that reference song titles or scenes from period theater also work.

5. For any questions please ask before the event. The autocrats answer emails as fast as they come in, so if you don’t get some type of response within a couple of days resend the email because it probably got tangled up in the web.
