I was born and raised in Florida until my early teens, when my family moved to Oklahoma. There I met my now husband in high school, my highschool sweetheart.
I struggled with my health since childhood, but only ever knew of conventional medicine as a choice to help myself. But then, when I was 18, I picked up my first book on natural ways to heal the body—and I was instantly drawn in.
That discovery led me to the world of herbalism and aromatherapy, and I’ve been exploring it ever since. I truly believe in the body’s incredible ability to heal itself, especially with the help of herbal medicine—nature’s own support system.
When my kids were little I wanted to teach them about herbs and natural wellness, even as I was still learning myself. I looked for children's books that could help me share that passion, but discovered very few options.
Most books were geared towards adults and I couldn't find any that would allow me to sit down and have a fun read with my children. At the time, I was juggling work, homeschooling, and managing my own chronic illness, so diving into those lessons were often a struggle.
While it was always fun to pull up a chair for them to watch me make a salve or run out the back door to pick some Yarrow to use as a poultice, it was hard work and I longed for more options.
I wished for more tools like books or fun card games that were simple and engaging that could help parents introduce their little ones to the world of healing plants and herbalism.
That’s when the idea of creating those tools myself started to take root. I’ve always loved to read and write, and I began to wonder: why not write a book that would fill this gap for families like mine?
As my children grew more independent, I finally had the time to bring that idea to life. I stopped waiting and started creating. What began with a few words and sketches eventually became my first children’s book: Your Herbal Garden: A Poem for Little Herbalists Vol I.
As I was finishing up the book I realized I couldn't just stop with one, so volume I was born! My hope is to continue writing books that spark curiosity, inspire a love for the natural world, and gently guide young children (and their grownups) back to the magic of herbal medicine.
