Letters of recommendation for men have been found to be longer, have more independent verbiage, and fewer communal words. These words have meaning, more communal words when it comes to letters of recommendation give off a negative attitude. There are also more doubt raisers that are written for women rather than men according to Mikki Hebl, a psychology and management professor. These actions when it comes to writing and reading these letters are not very obvious, but are definitely there. The wording of these letters subtly put down women and raise men up.

Mikki Hebl did a study on how many speakers were giving speeches at the top fifty universities in the United States. Her findings were that about sixty five percent of these speakers were men and only thirty five percent were women and overall men were being invited to give talks more than women in general. People may not be doing this intentionally, but we need to become aware of it in order to fix it. It is also a well known fact that women are more likely to be interrupted by men, whether during a formal speech or not. Men are rarely, if ever interrupted by their own sex and women. Not interrupting someone is a sign of respect and this goes to show how little respect there is for women in this world and how largely respected men are.
