ParentS and TeacherS

For several years, GE (General Electric) has run its STEM Inspiration programme across the UK, through programmes like GirlsGetSET, STEM-in-a-Box and career conversations. GE has now developed a new virtual scheme in two parts called #STEMtogether that is designed to be very flexible and only requires very limited resources.

The first component is a 10-week project and the second is a weekly worksheet challenge with a leaderboard, though it is not compulsory to take part in both. There are five projects to choose from, a medicine drone delivery system, Mission to Mars, a hackathon programming challenge, a Future of Flight and Python programming activity and a UN Sustainability Development Goals-related activity. These have hardware, software and systems engineering aspects, as well as some maths/science elements.

The worksheets are released weekly on this website and to keep students’ identities safe, there is a coded form submission in order to be included on the leaderboard.

In addition to these projects, we are offering an 'Imagine with GE' webinar series, offering soft skills workshops and Q+A sessions about #STEMtogether projects as well as careers in STEM. See the first session here.

Students completing a 10-part project and 'Imagine with GE' sessions can now achieve Industrial Cadets Silver Awards. To sign up for this, students will need to share a parent or teacher's contact details. You can find more information about requirements and read the starter pack here.

A note to teachers

We will be tagging all worksheets with curriculum topics, to make it easier for you to link #STEMtogether projects to your lessons. Stay tuned!
