My name is Jamisa Williams, the Principal at STEM Early College at A&T. It is my privilege and honor to welcome you to the NC A&T school family and community. My educational experiences span over a decade, and they all are in secondary education. I am very passionate about the high school years. This is an important and critical time in the lives of students as they transition from the middle school experience to the high school experience and as they prepare for the larger challenges of high school and onto college and career readiness. What happens during these few short years will have a lasting impact on their cognitive, social, and emotional growth and development.
Our theme for the 2020-21 school year will be Back to the Future: ReLearn, ReConstruct, ReNew. Fortunately, STEM Early College is a highly diverse population of teachers and students. With this theme, our goal is to understand how the diverse backgrounds of our student population may impact the way learning takes place. It is important to us that we value culture, religion, intellect, and personal experiences for the purpose of creating an inclusive learning environment. With this, we will work as a school to address our perceptions, learn new ways to appreciate differences, and create a space that acknowledges the value we all bring to the learning environment. Further, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced us all to relearn the way we think about school; reconstruct new methods for teaching and learning; and, renew our approaches for learning each day. Thus, our theme is dual-purposed in ensuring the faculty and staff understand who makes up our STEM family as we develop fresh and innovative teaching practices that honor our student body. We will analyze an array of mediums to support the implementation of our school theme in and out of the classroom. STEM Early College will activate the 2020-21 school year to the future by rebuilding a learning system for the benefit of all.
Together, the staff and I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at STEM Early College by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. As we gear up for the 2020-21 school year, I extend an opportunity to both students and parents to get better acquainted with STEM Early College. Please join us in making this the very best experience for your child. Being informed will help. Please remain patient with us as the Covid-19 pandemic drives decisions for schools. Our goal is to ensure students have a successful and safe entry into the learning environment, face-to-face or virtual. Thus, STEM Early College will follow the decisions of our superintendent, Dr. Sharon Contreras, and the Guilford County Schools Board of Education. If there are changes to the school schedule or calendar of events, we will promptly provide essential updates for your family.
Again, thank you for your patience during this time. This historical pandemic has vast implications for school-based decision making. As stated, we want to ensure students have a safe and successful start this school year. Please do not hesitate to contact STEM Early College at (336) 370-8580 if you have any questions regarding any matter regarding your student.
Thank you and I look forward to working with you.
Let’s innovate!
