Throughout this course, students progress from understanding the anatomy of a micro FPV drone to confidently flying and racing it. Each session builds skills sequentially – students learn to identify components, assemble and configure their drone, and master flight fundamentals. By the end of the course, each student will be able to safely build, arm and fly their own FPV drone and complete at least one clean lap around an indoor track.
• Drone Anatomy: frame, motors, flight controller, camera, VTX, antenna, radio, goggles.
• Safety: LiPo battery handling, charging and storage; props-off rules; arming/disarming discipline; FPV spotter rules; indoor flight etiquette.
• Build: Mount motors, install the all-in-one flight controller, wire the camera and VTX, install canopy, antenna and props correctly.
• Setup & Configuration: Bind the radio, set stick directions and an arming switch, select beginner flight modes, configure failsafes and OSD.
• Flying Skills (LOS): Hover, soft landings, control moves forward/back/left/right, yaw turns and simple patterns.
• Flying Skills (FPV): Lining up gates, getting 2–3 gates in a row, 1‑2 laps without a crash.
• Next-Step Pathways: practice nights, beginner race days and upgrade sessions through the STEM Skies Drone League.
