American Computer Science League (ACSL) is an international computer science competition for students in grades 3-12. Morning Creek participated in 2020 and 2021 and several of our students made it to the finals and few of them won medals.
This is the 3rd year MCES is participating in this contest. Morning Creek PTA is offering our Colts in Grades 3, 4, and 5, who are interested in Computer Science, to participate in the Elementary Division of American Science League (ACSL) Contests.
Each contest consists of an online 30-minute, 5-question non-programming test, focused on a single category of content. A different category will be tested on each contest.
The four categories tested in the Elementary Division are:
Computer Number Systems
Elementary Prefix/Infix/Postfix Notation
Elementary Boolean Algebra
Elementary Graph Theory
The problems are typically word problems that require students to apply their knowledge of the topic to solve real-world problems.
The ACSL website has a number of resources available to help you prepare your students for the competition, including sample problems, practice contests, and study materials.
Please check this page for more details.
The ACSL Elementary Division is a great way for students to learn about computer science and to challenge themselves. It is also a great way for students to meet other students who are interested in computer science and to make new friends.
Team registration is covered by PTA. The Finals competition is individual based. Top students from all schools will be invited.
The cutoff for students in the Elementary Division to enter the finals is 12 or more.
ACSL sessions will be held every Wednesday in-person right after school hours in the STEAM lab and occasionally via zoom meetings after 5 pm to accommodate schedule of the volunteers.
Participation in this program will primarily be student interest driven, complimented with volunteers and parent's helping their child to practice.
Dr. Rajdeep Singh (aka Raj), parent of a 5th grader, will be the team's Advisor and Tony Idol, parent of a 3rd grader, will be the co-advisor. We encourage parent volunteers to take on mentoring roles and help with practice sessions.
We will meet for introducing the topics and practicing in Room 19 (STEAM Lab) from 2:15-3:15 on W.
