The goal of a Rube Goldberg machine is to connect as many different items as possible to demonstrate how energy can be transferred from one to the next. For example, a domino course could end by hitting a golf ball, the golf ball would roll down a small ramp and hit the back of a wooden train, the train would roll down the track until it hit the launch button on a Hot Wheels track, and so on.
With so many moving parts, there’s a lot that can cause frustration - take your time and expect that you’ll need to change your design to get it to work perfectly.
A catapult is a type of machine used as a weapon to throw rocks or other things . Catapults were common during the Middle Ages to wage attacks on castles. Typically waring armies would construct a catapult on higher ground or castle towers to let them shoot farther.
Catapults use weights and levers to send the rocks or other things into the air. Nowadays catapults are used to study old weapons, and as experiments (for example in physics or engineering classes).
