Zines (pronounced "zeens") are handmade, self-published booklets. The zine-making community is comprised of all kinds of people: young/old, rich/poor, white/brown/black, privileged/marginalized, abled/dis-abled. Anyone can make and publish a zine about any topic.
I made my first zine in my teens before I even knew what a zine was. It was a family yearbook with funny captions. In 2003, I made my first comic zine called "Kosmic Commander and Adventure Girl: Citizens of the Universe."
I make zines regularly. I love that I can have an idea, express it with words and images, and create a finished product without needing input from anyone. For me (and my ADHD brain), zine-making satisfies my desire to create, to see results quickly, and to share my original (albeit imperfect) work with others.
An exploration of growing up as a multicultural person in the US who valued being white over Nicaraguan until an emotional journey back to the land of her birth.
Brutally honest and raw poems about sexuality, predators, growing up in New Orleans, family, and being a half-white, half-Latina from the South.
A poetic and artistic reinterpretation of the book “Laws of Nature” by Maria M. King, a 19th-century medium. Themes include the cosmos, man’s wicked nature, life, death, spirit, motherhood, and the Divine feminine.
A juxtaposition of images (women from the Bible and dinosaurs) overlaid with sacred texts rewritten from the perspective of the Divine feminine, along with a dose of the absurd.
I was interviewed by Solitaire Miguel for the 2020 San Francisco Zine Festival, where my zines were featured at their event. This was my first time participating in a zine festival, and because it was during a global pandemic, they held the event online. In 2022, they returned to hosting in-person events, so I was able to also table at their live zine festival, which was a lot of fun.
A workout zine for MEN ONLY (this is a joke, but that's what the original stated). Put on those tight little shorts, white tennies, tube socks, and let’s get sweaty.
A zine pack covering what you must know to live on Earth. Topics include: purpose, giftedness, dreams, subpersonalities, desire, God, and more!
