Eyes to See (2012) was a book, video, and multimedia exhibit created by Stelli Munnis and Veronica Winters to share the experiences of 23 US volunteers who traveled to rural Nicaragua to build a classroom with Seeds of Learning, a nonprofit that works with communities in Central America and Mexico to expand access to education.
Volunteers went with the idea that they were there to help "those poor people," but they returned home having received so much more than they gave.
“I feel a greater sense of appreciation for life, and I now believe that anything is possible. The joy on everyone’s faces at the work site was beyond words. I saw how little they have and how happy they are. They welcomed us as if we were part of their family. They were not judgmental. If you said something a little off, they just helped you through it.”
