Our Kindergarten–1st Grade Homeschool Pod is a four-hour weekly class created specifically for young homeschool students who benefit from a consistent learning routine, small-group instruction, hands-on activities, and meaningful social interaction.
The program provides a balanced educational experience that combines core academic learning with creativity, movement, exploration, and play. Students build essential Kindergarten and 1st Grade skills while developing confidence, independence, curiosity, and positive learning habits.
Our goal is to create a loving and nurturing environment where children are excited to learn through hands-on experiences. We use age-appropriate materials that are engaging and with purpose to create a school for each child to succeed.
We are focused on the development of the whole child, socially and emotionally, as well as academically and physically. Children will have lots of fun while we learn and explore literacy, math, science, and the arts!
We do not use only one teaching methodology. Instead, we take the best practices from each to ensure a comprehensive learning environment. This allows each child to explore a variety of ways to learn, and become an active participant in their learning.

The curriculum is aligned with California academic standards for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, with a primary focus on foundational English Language Arts and Math skills.
Lessons are carefully adapted to meet the developmental needs of young learners. Because children may enter the program with different levels of experience and readiness, activities include opportunities for guided instruction, individual practice, group participation, and appropriate academic challenge.
The goal is not only to introduce new skills, but also to provide regular opportunities for students to practice, reinforce, and apply what they are learning.
English Language Arts
The English Language Arts portion of the program focuses on building the foundational skills children need to become confident readers, writers, speakers, and listeners.
Depending on each student’s level, learning may include:
Letter recognition and letter-sound relationships
Phonemic awareness and sound blending
Phonics and early decoding skills
Sight-word recognition
Reading fluency and comprehension

A Balanced Four-Hour Class
Young children need variety, movement, and opportunities to learn in different ways. The four-hour class is structured with a balance of focused academic instruction and active, creative, and social learning.
A typical class may include:
Morning meeting and group discussion
Calendar, weather, or daily routine activities
English Language Arts instruction
Math instruction and hands-on practice

The pace of the class is developmentally appropriate, with transitions between seated work, hands-on learning, movement, and creative activities.
Small-Group Learning
The small-group format allows students to receive more individual attention while still benefiting from learning alongside peers.
Children are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, participate in discussions, and work at a level that supports their current development. The teacher can observe each student’s progress, provide additional support when needed, and offer more advanced challenges when appropriate.
The environment is structured and supportive without feeling overly rigid. Students are given clear expectations while also having opportunities to make choices, explore their interests, and develop independence.
Social and Emotional Development
The social component is an important part of the Homeschool Pod experience.
Students have regular opportunities to learn and play with the same group of children, helping them develop friendships and feel part of a consistent learning community.
