This class meets Monday and Wednesday from 9-10:25am on Zoom.
We also meet Thursday 9-10:25am on campus in MS-213.
You will be part of a learning community. This is not a self-paced course.
All activities, assignments, and content will be posted on Canvas.
In this course, we will meet two days a week on Zoom. My plan is to try to structure each week the same if possible. Introducing a topic with a discovery activity on Monday, giving you Tuesday 'off' from class to watch the lecture videos, and then coming back on Wednesday to debrief and practice. Following it all up with an activity on campus on Thursday solidifying our understanding!
If you can't make class, you will have other ways to complete work done in class. There is (usually) no penalty, but I strive to make class worthwhile so you don't want to miss it.
Before we meet on Wednesday, you'll typically watch lecture videos, filling in the corresponding lecture notes, and complete a knowledge check (quiz via Canvas). Those knowledge checks have two attempts and will remain open for up to 80% after Thursday's class. If you're completely lost on a knowledge check, wait until after class to take your second attempt!
After we meet, you'll finish up any activity that didn't get done during class by Sunday.
Knowledge checks are weekly quizzes on the video material. They are due before class on Thursday, but you can submit up until the Sunday following our class meeting for a max score of 8/10. They have TWO attempts and some helpful hints appear after your first attempt. You can use any resource - tutors, classmates, me, as you work on them, but make sure you understand since those tend to be my favorite types of questions!
Every week there will be at least three 'activities' to complete - usually during our Zoom session. Worksheets will be graded for correctness while some activities will be graded based on effort. Some activities will not be able to be made up if missed. All online activities can be resubmitted and revised as many times as needed to learn the material before the exam for that content. There is no late penalty, but you are encouraged to submit them on time to get guidance from me!
There will be a project that will be done collaboratively. All of the grades will be based on individual work and will be spread throughout the second half of the semester.
There are 3 exams and an optional final exam (which will replace the lowest exam score) given during the semester.
Evidence of cheating - getting help from a PERSON or online tutor during an exam will result in a 0 on that exam that cannot be replaced by the optional final. It doesn't happen often, but students will share exam questions with their friends not realizing I can usually spot that.
You can be dropped from the course after missing 1 week worth of class. This can be:
3 class meetings
Let me know what's going on! I will wonder where you were, so just check in. Everything you should need to complete will be on Canvas.
If you're new to Mesa, there are no +/- grades.
Your final grade in the class will be based on your overall percentage:
