If you've made it here, you must be signed up for one of my statistics classes! I run them all fairly similarly, so you'll find some general information here and there are subpages for the course specifics.
I’m excited to have you in my Math 119 class this semester. Statistics is one of my favorite classes to teach because it is:
something we can (and should) use every day,
one of the fastest growing fields and can get you a great job,
challenging yet grounded in basic principles.
Before we meet on Canvas (and possibly Zoom after that), I thought I’d tell you a little about myself…
I’m a giant nerd, obviously since I’m a math professor, but I also LOVE sci-fi and fantasy books: I just finished the first two books of the Hyperion series and I'm waiting for the next books in the Kingkiller Chronicles and Gentlemen Bastard series - I highly recommend all three series.
I'm a mom - who is lucky enough that our small home day care did not closed during the pandemic. Those of you who worked / schooled with kids at home, I applaud you. Beckett turned two in February and is increasingly fun to be around.
Lastly, my self-care is all about being active. I play on a few indoor soccer teams in La Mesa and Santee, practice yoga at CorePower, run, hike, and lug around Beckett in a bike trailer while he yells "faster!" at me.
If you made it this far, congrats. You now know way too much about me. 🖤, Kelly
This is not an easy time to be a student. The stress of COVID-19, racial injustice, and increase political polarization in our country impacts all of our lives.
This makes it difficult to learn, manage our time, and juggle our many responsibilities. I have designed my courses with that in mind, this includes:
Suggested 'best by' dates - almost all assignments can be submitted late, if that is necessary... I will reach out before items are due (and after) to try to support you.
Opportunities to show growth - most assignments can be revised and resubmitted. Learning is a process and I want to help you on that journey.
Please know that I am committed to creating and supporting you in a safe and respectful learning environment.
I am constantly growing and learning as an educator, and I welcome your feedback. We are better together.
I check email every morning and try to clear my inbox. If you haven't heard back from me within 24 hours, don't hesitate to resend to put yourself back at the top of my stack!
