Stock Photos

Images That Tell Your Story

A Stock Photographer captures images on speculation of a later sale. The images are stored in his own library and likely included in massive libraries, or Stock Photo Agencies, featuring works from many sources. Buyers approach the libraries and search for images to illustrate their topic. Typically, a rights of use License is purchased for the image use application. Rarely, a full copyright buyout sale is arranged between the photographer and buyer.

Licenses are either of a Royalty Free (pay once up front) or Rights Managed (pay per each use) business model. Images might be Commercial (advertizing) or Editorial (illustrative) in their use. Industry norms apply, for these license categories, relating to: retouching, alterations, Copyrighted/Trademarked material in the image, model releases, property releases, permissible aftermarket alterations, and sensitive use.

Since 2003, Stan's digital images have been made available through the following Stock Photo Agencies. A few image examples, in use, can be found in the Internet References section of his About page.

iStockPhoto Portfolio

Stan's Stock Photos at iStockPhoto are licensed at very reasonable Royalty Free microstock rates for use in commercial or editorial applications. My photos here are exclusive to the iStockphoto library. Contents include Dayton, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and include skyline, cityscape, landmark, architecture, landscape, scenes, cars, vehicles, and objects. Royalty Free licenses are typically paid one time (no royalties for additional uses) for a broad range and number of uses (be sure to read for a few license specific restrictions).

Alamy Portfolio

Stan's Stock Photos at Alamy are licensed at very reasonable Rights Managed rates for use in editorial applications. My photos here are exclusive to the Alamy library. Contents include Dayton, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, Shanghai, China, Singapore, and include skyline, cityscape, landmark, architecture, landscape, scenes, events, cars, vehicles, and objects. Rights Managed Licenses are typically paid by each contracted use of an image. Rights Managed Licenses often define contract usage parameters: commercial or editorial market sectors, a single project, the number of views/imprints, the length of time, and the countries or locations. To re-use a Rights Managed image outside of the initial license parameters requires a new license negotiation.
