Stand Up for Science Iowa

About Us

Our grassroots movement was born in March 2025 from the nationwide Stand Up for Science protests, when we were inspired by the mobilization efforts across the country to speak out against the recent attacks on science. We believe that science is for everyone, and we are concerned about what the recent political interference and budget cuts for scientific research may mean for the future of science. 

As the Iowa "local" of the Stand Up for Science movement, we support the policy goals of the national movement, which are: 1) End Censorship and Political Interference in Science, 2) Secure and Expand Scientific Funding, and 3) Defend Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Science. 

In alignment with these goals, we aim to provide information on advocacy efforts within Iowa, keep our community informed on local and national policy regarding science, create community by sharing stories about why we are standing up for science, and communicate the importance of science in Iowa. 

Importantly, we are nonpartisian. We invite representatives, candidates, and community members from all political sides to engage in conversations with us about our concerns, ideas, and goals.

This movement is not limited to scientists, as attacks on science affect everyone. We encourage everyone in the community that shares our goals to join us!
