Using Technology To Redefine Instruction

Project Based Professional Development

How can I transform my teaching with technology?

Our Current Challenge

As one-to-one technology makes its way into the classroom, many teachers take the path of least resistance. When administrators and school board members plan, approve, and implement expensive technology initiatives, it is never with the intent for teachers to convert real worksheets into digital worksheets. Using the SAMR model as a scale, we need to shift the instruction that is taking place with technology from substitution to redefinition.

Driving Question:

How can I transform my teaching with technology?

Sub Questions:

  1. What is the SAMR model?
  2. What does each level of the SAMR model look like in the classroom?
  3. Why would we want to change from traditional substitutional instruction with technology to using technology in a transformational way?
  4. What are the benefits of collaboration in lesson planning, and in instructional practice?
  5. What does transformational instruction look like?
  6. What makes authentic, transformational instruction engaging for students?
  7. What pedagogical strategies/theories align best with transformational instruction?
  8. What are some innovative and engaging ways other teachers are using technology in their classes?
  9. What pitfalls do we need to avoid while implementing technology into our instruction?
  10. How do we evaluate new instructional practices?
