How is our curriculum sequenced and designed?
The curriculum has been developed to encompasses the ITTECF (DfE, 2024) framework and involves regular re-visiting of educational topics over the ITE course. Each time the content is re-visited, the student gains deeper knowledge of the topic. It has the benefits of reinforcing information over time and using prior knowledge to inform future learning. The teacher resources we use focus on that of encouragement, aiding and allowing the trainee teacher/student to uncover the main principles on their own through learning, research, and reflective enquiry (Rosenshine, 2012). Communication between the learner and teacher is the key concept. Linked to our teacher lesson plans, teacher worksheets and resources which are constantly building the learner’s knowledge in a spiral manner and used as a shared repository upon the TEAMS online platform, where ITE trainees share resources and practice. A knowledge centred curriculum provides ITE trainees with a broad understanding to teach discipline subject specific related concepts. This social constructivist approach as developed by Bruner (1976) is a key element of the design and planning of learning throughout our curriculum.
Below you will find documents which provide an overview of what is expected at each stage and a detailed curriculum plan. All of these documents can be found in the mentor workbook.
