Schools work with trainees in one or both school placements. Whether you are working in full partnership this year, or within one placement only, your contribution to our initial teacher training programme is greatly valued. The difference that a well informed and focused mentor makes is amazing and it really prepares students for life within the Early Career Framework and their future career. This site, along with the training sessions and resources, is designed so that you can easily locate the document that you are after to support your student in placement. Don't forget that the University PG team is only an email or a phone call away and we will be only too happy to help and guide you in your role.
We believe that high quality mentoring creates a real legacy for each colleague that is involved. Consider how our careful and supportive work in developing the teachers of the future plays an vital role in their development as a complete professional. Consider too, how this impacts on the lives and life chances of the pupils we work with today and those in the future. Mentoring is truly a real privilege as we secure for the future, high quality colleagues and outcomes for children in our schools.
In this section you will find key training resources designed to support you in your role as a Mentor throughout the trainee’s time in your setting.
We want our mentors to be an integrated part of our initial teacher education arrangements. We want you to share the approach that we hold central to all that we do. The four aspects are explained below:
Ambitious and inspirational mentors who have a love for learning and the connected curriculum.
Critically reflective mentors who are curious and daring.
Mentors who are confident to use research to inform their practice and the practice of others.
Informed mentors who take responsibility for the importance of community, centred within their own role in the classroom and through the impact on children's lives.
The mandatory mentor training covers everything you need to know about being a Staffordshire University school based mentor.
On the home page you should choose the course that is relevant to your role.
Chose either:
Existing Mentor - if you worked as a mentor with Staffordshire University for either placement 1 or 2 last year
New Mentor - if you are new to Staffordshire University as a mentor, or you have worked with us previously, just not last year
You will be guided through a series of 'lessons' containing short videos and end of section multiple choice quizzes.
The quiz in the final section will collate your personal details such as name, email address, etc. Completion of this quiz will confirm your completion of the mandatory mentor training and you will be able to download a Certificate of Completion for this mandatory training.
